Safeguarding goes beyond the contributions made to child protection in relation to individual children. Our objective is to provide a safe environment for all young people to learn and reach their full potential.

- Prevent unsuitable people working with children and young people.
- Promote safe practice and challenge poor and unsafe practice.
- Identify instances in which there are grounds for concern about a child’s welfare, and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe.
Prevent duty
The Prevent Duty aims to prevent young people from being radicalised by, for example, far right extremists or religious extremists. In school we have a duty to care for the children and take note of any child who is at risk of radicalisation, regardless of their background. We also have to take steps to help prevent children being exposed to extremist ideas.
At Newquay Primary Academy our overriding concern is that children feel safe and also express tolerance towards all cultures and religions, even when their personal views may be different.
e-Safety
Being online is an integral part of children and young people’s lives. Social media, online games, websites and apps can be accessed through mobile phones, computers, laptops and tablets – all of which form a part of children and young people’s online world. The internet and online technology provides new opportunities for young people’s learning and growth, but it can also expose them to new types of risks.
Schools have a dual responsibility when it comes to e-safety: to ensure the school’s online procedures keep children and young people safe, and to teach them about online safety, in and outside of school.
At Newquay Primary Academy we foster an open environment in which children are encouraged to ask any questions and participate in an ongoing conversation about the benefits and dangers of the online world. E-safety forms a fundamental part of our safeguarding and child protection measures.
